Originally designed as a duo comprised of flautist Anne Barnhart and pianist/vocalist Jeff Barnhart, Ivory&Gold® expands to a trio whenever possible to include Grammy-award winning Nashville jazz percussionist Danny Coots. As either a duo or trio, Ivory&Gold® promises a unique and diverse musical experience drawing from 350 years of music.
As a duo, Anne and Jeff Barnhart have brought much variety to their performances, due in large part to their rapport and their diverse backgrounds. Each holds a master’s in music, but Jeff has concentrated on the American forms of music such as ragtime, jazz and Tin Pan Alley, while Anne’s expertise lies in classical flute literature. Audiences experience a sonic treat as flute and piano weave seamlessly through the ages, trading melodic and accompaniment ideas in a unique combination. When drummer Danny Coots is added to the mix, sparks fly as this tasty and tight trio merges the old and new, the familiar and fantastic to create unique renditions of well-known favorites.
IvorIvory&Gold® is currently enjoying a busy performing schedule in concert halls and festivals, ceremonies and private engagements. They have played to standing ovations in such diverse places in the US as Sun Valley, Idaho, Evergreen and Denver, CO, Kansas City, St. Louis and Sedalia, MO, Medford and Seaside, OR, Clearwater, FL, and numerous California events including festivals and parties in Mammoth Lakes, Orange County, Monterey, Pismo Beach, Three Rivers and Eureka. Abroad, Ivory&Gold® performs each year at the prestigious Keswick and Bude Jazz Weeks in England, in Canada, in European cities in Germany and Switzerland, and various locales in South America and Asia.
In addition, Ivory&Gold® has a been a featured attraction with the prestigious Regent and Crystal Cruise Lines. All of their performances “at sea” are sponsored by the entertainment company, Jazzdagen Tours (www.jazzdagen.com).
As a duo, Ivory&Gold® boasts 6 recordings: 2 ragtime CDs, an all-Broadway ballad recording, a collection of love songs and a Christmas CD. While still appearing as a duo, Ivory&Gold® is enjoying great feedback from its trio appearances. Trio recordings now number three, with a fourth one due to be released in June, 2009.
